New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP Rao Inderjit Singh on Tuesday said that the communal violence that broke out in Nuh district of Haryana on Monday is “unfortunate” and the situation right now is under control.

“Today the situation in Nuh district was normal and section 144 has been imposed there” he told UNI outside Parliament.

According to official data, four people were killed and at least 30 others, including several policemen, were injured in the violence on Monday.

The violence broke out between two communities when a mob tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession and several vehicles were also set on fire.

Internet services have been suspended in the Sohna, Pataudi, Manear Nuh areas till tomorrow to contain the “intense communal tension” .

Singh said the important thing right now is to establish peace and the state and central governments are working on that front.

When asked about the support from the Home Ministry, Singh said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs is very proactive and assured the state government to provide as many paramilitary forces required for maintaining peace in the area”.

The Haryana government has sought 20 companies of the Rapid Action Force from the Centre for a week to maintain the law and order situation in Nuh district.

“In case if the things go out of hand further we will be willing to provide defence forces to the state as well” he added.

Curfew has been clamped in Nuh district, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said today.

Meanwhile, Police have registered about 20 First Information Reports (FIRs) and detained some people in connection with the violence.

In the wake of “intense communal tension” in Haryana’s Nuh district, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and other leaders cutting across party lines have appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

Khattar also said that “strictest action” will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
