New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said, “It is not only absurd but also unfortunate that the Prime Minister called the opposition parties as ‘directionless”.

Replying to the letter of Home Minister Amit Shah, Kharge said “We are requesting the Prime Minister to come to the House and give a statement on Manipur issue, but it seems that doing so hurts his prestige”.

He added that, “We have a commitment towards the people of this country and we will pay any cost for it”.

“In a single day, the respected Prime Minister connects the country’s opposition parties with the British rulers and terrorist groups and on the same day, the Home Minister writes an emotional letter and expects a positive attitude from the opposition”, Kharge said.

‘The gap between the government and the opposition existed for years, but now we see a gap in the government as well. Calling INDIA directionless by PM Modi is unfortunate,” the Congress President said.

“The lack of coordination between the ruling party and the opposition was visible for years, now this gulf has started appearing even within the ruling party”, he said in the letter.

On Tuesday, the Home Minister wrote a letter to Kharge and appealed tp the opposition to come “forward for a discussion in a good environment.”

“The Opposition is demanding a statement from the government on Manipur. I want to tell you that not just a statement, the government is ready for a full-fledged discussion. But this will need the cooperation of all parties” Shah said.

Meanwhile, the deadlock continued in the Rajya Sabha, as the opposition pressed its demand for the Prime Minister’s statement on the Manipur issue.
