Chennai: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin of adopting double standards on the arrest of Minister V.Senthilbalaji by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case.

Addressing a public meeting at suburban Tambaram on Tuesday night to highlight the nine years achievements of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, the senior BJP leader said when Mr.Senthilbalaji was with the AIADMK, Stalin had accused him of corruption and demanded his arrest.

Now Mr Stalin was condemning his arrest and questioning the action of the Central investigative agencies and trying to bring disrepute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The BJP would not accept such “double standards”, Mr Rajnath Singh said.

He also had a dig at Mr Stalin for putting the spirit of democracy in danger by arresting State BJP Secretary SG Suryah for a tweet.

Referring to Mr. Suryah, who has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu police on charges of spreading fake news on the social media, Mr. Rajnath Singh said his arrest just for a tweet was Unconstitutional and anti-democratic.

Stating that the entire country was aware that the DMK was corrupt, he appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to provide one chance for the BJP to rule the State for a corruption free governance and eradicate corruption, while listing out the projects and schemes launched by the Centre for Tamil Nadu.

Talking about the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK, Mr Rajnath Singh said his party valued its allies because the National Democratic Alliance was not a “compulsion”, but a commitment.

“The BJP will never forget the support extended by late AIADMK leader J.Jayalalithaa offered to the first BJP government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee”, he said.

Terming Ms Jayalalithaa as a leader who worked for the upliftment of the poor and providing them a dignified life, he said Mr.Modi also working towards the same goal.
