New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday met separately with Bangladesh High Commissioner Md. Mustafizur Rahman and Nepal’s Ambassador Shankar Sharma.

In tweets, EAM said on his meeting with the Bangladesh envoy:

“Pleased to receive High Commissioner Md. Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh this afternoon.

“Appreciated the successful organization of the 6th Indian Ocean Conference in Dhaka. Discussed ways and means to further deepen India-Bangladesh Maitri.”

The meeting comes days after EAM’s visit to Dhaka earlier this month to participate in the 6th edition of the Indian Ocean Conference. During the visit, he had called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On his meeting with the Nepalese envoy, he posted:

“Glad to receive Ambassador @DrShankarSharma of Nepal this morning.

“Discussed our deep and multifaceted partnership. Committed to its further enhancement in the coming days.”

The Nepalese ambassador in a tweet said he was delighted to meet the EAM, and both sides expressed their desire and commitment to further broaden and deepen the ties.

“Delighted to meet External Affairs Minister Hon. @DrSJaishankar ji at his office today.

“Both of us expressed our desire and commitment to further broaden and deepen our strong, age-old multifaceted relationship in days ahead,” he posted.

The meeting is seen as an attempt to lay the ground for the visit of Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to India next week.

In February, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra had visited Kathmandu where he had held talks with his Nepalese counterpart Bharat Raj Paudyal on the bilateral ties.
