Awnatipora: IUST ‘s Alamdar Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology, charar-i-sharief , in collaboration with Drug De-addiction centre SMHS Srinagar organised an awareness programme under Nasha Mukht Bharat. The programme was conducted in the premises of Government Drug De-addiction Centre SMHS Srinagar and was attended by the inpatients, outpatients, hospital visitors, hospital staff and nursing students of Alamdar College. Addressing the gathering, Principal Nursing colleges, IUST Dr Asmat Parveen talked about the menace of drug addiction and the need for societal intervention to eradicate this menace. She highlighted the extent of the problem and said that if the society does not awake to the problem, a serious human catastrophe is awaiting us. She quoted statistics and said most of the drug abusers are in the age group of 17-33 years, which portends very ill for the community. She further said that the main objective of organizing such awareness programmes is to reach out to masses and spread awareness about the impact of drug abuse on the individuals as well as on the society.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office Islamic University of Science and Technology Awantipora teaching faculty AMCONMT, including Tabashir Bashir and Sayed Shahid also talked about the magnitude of the problem and the need to sensitise the people about the bad effects of drug addiction. Students also spoke on various modes of drug addiction, causes, consequences and preventive measures and rehabilitation. The hospital administration appreciated the efforts of College in spreading awareness against drug abuse and congratulated the students for leading the campaign.
