Gadchiroli/Nagpur: A group of Naxalites opened fire at police team in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, a press release said here on Monday.
As per the release the incident took place on Sunday at around 2 pm when the special police were carrying out their anti-Naxal operation in Vedampalli forest in Aheri tehsil in Gadchiroli.
About 25 outlaws started firing at the security personnel. After a heavy exchange of fire between the two sides, the Naxalites fled into the forest, the release said.
No casualties reported from either side.
The police later conducted search and recovered weapons and other Naxal material from the spot , the release said adding that Naxal plan to carry out sabotage during “Bhumkal Week” has been spoiled.
