DC Rajouri reviews implementation of  Road safety Plan

1.9 Cr fine recovered from traffic violators

Rajouri :  Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal on Friday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the measures being taken for the effective implementation of road safety plan in the district.

The meeting held detailed deliberations on the action plan, including raising awareness about road safety, strict implementation of provision of Motor Vehicles Act, establishment of trauma centres, removal of illegal encroachments/hoardings, fixing of road safety signages, installation of Crash barriers along accident prone road stretches etc.

Speaking at the meeting, the DC said that effective execution of the road safety plan was necessary for prevention and protection of road accidents.

While reviewing the enforcement of road safety rules, the meeting was informed that Rs 1.9 crore compound fine including Rs 19 lakh by Motor Vehicle Department and Rs 90 lakh by Traffic police has been recovered.

Referring to the public complaints of violation of traffic rules by the commercial drivers, the DDC asked the traffic authorities to recommend the permits and licenses of such habitual violators for cancellation.

Regarding the establishment of the trauma centre, the meeting was apprised that the land for the establishment of the same was being identified.

Taking note of the illegal encroachment along the roadsides, the DDC said that the major chunk of roads in Rajouri is under BRO and passed strict instructions to the concerned officers from the BRO to remove the illegal encroachments at the earliest.

He further asked the concerned officers to identify the black spots on the roads and take effective measures to rectify the same within the shortest possible time. Stress was also laid on installation of crash barriers within one month.

Reviewing corrective measures taken by PWD(R&B) , the meeting was informed that the department has rectified sixty blind spots to prevent mishaps. The DDC   also asked them to mark Zebra crossings at prominent places.

Similarly, reviewing the performance of the PMGSY Department, the concerned officer informed that crash barriers are being installed on the under construction roads, while the installation would be done on the completed roads as and when funds are made available.

The   MCs were asked to identify no parking zones and ensure strict enforcement. They were also directed to remove illegal and unethical hoardings from the road sides.

Asking to take stern action against the violators of the traffic norms, the DDC asked the Traffic Police and   Motor Vehicle Department to conduct special drives to   take actions against the violators as per relevant nor

The DDC also asked the concerned officers to educate and motivate the public to follow golden traffic norms for their safety as well as the safety of others.

Officers present in the meeting were SE PWD (R&B), Kamal Kishore; CEO Education, ShailashKumari; ARTO, Shami Kumar; EO MCs and other concerned officers.
