Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two persons in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, saying that they were intending to lob grenade at an undisclosed location in the district.
A police spokesman in a statement issued here on Tuesday said that on a specific information, a joint naka was established by Sopore Police alongwith Army 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF at Shalimar Colony crossing during which two suspects identified as Asif Rasheed War, son of Abdul Rasheed War and Altaf Hussain Najar, son of Abdul Ahad Najar—both residents of Natnoosa Kupwara were apprehended.
Upon their search, a hand grenade and incriminating material was recovered from their possession, he said
“On preliminary enquiry, they disclosed their allegiance to LeT and intended to lob the acquired grenade at an undisclosed location in Kupwara with an intention to cause casualties,” police said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 275/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Sopore, adding that investigation is going on and more arrests are anticipated.
