Anantnag: A meeting to review the District Environment plan was Friday held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Gh. Hassan Sheikh.
The meeting held thorough deliberation on the ill effects of environmental pollution and the adverse effect of industrial processes was also discussed and appropriate mitigation measures debated.
The attendees were directed to take strict and appropriate action against the violators.
Throwing light on major causes of environmental degradation like open defecation, CO2 emissions of brick kilns, industrial wastes etc all attending officers were directed by ADC to make result oriented interventions like awareness campaigns, demolition of open toilets on streams, rivers, springs, and other water bodies.
It was given out that the agencies like Hot Mix plants, brick kilns, mining agencies, etc must be educated about the environmental pollution caused by their industrial activities and counseled to adopt all mitigation measures as warranted under law.
Sheikh exhorted the officers to ensure application of relevant provisions of forest act, water bodies management act, etc in their jurisdictions in letter and spirit. Stress was laid on plantation drives, awareness camps, installation of high draw brick kilns, preservation, conservation of natural resources and environmental protection.
ADC observed that it is only through concerted institutional actions along with widespread citizen participation aimed at conservation, that the district environment plan can be effectively implemented.
The meeting was attended by CEO MCA, CEO, DFO, ACD, DPO, SDMs of Kokernag and Pahalgam, Tehsildars, EOs of MCs and other officials.
