New Delhi: Amid the report of killing four civilians at polling station in Cooch Behar district in Bengal on Saturday, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Saturday clarified that its personnel were not deployed in or around the polling booth where this unfortunate incident took place.
In a statement issued by the Force here, it said “In regard to a recent incident being reported in media about the killing of four civilians outside booth number 126 at Jorpataki in Sitalkuchi Assembly Constituency, in Cooch Bihar, in West Bengal, it is clarified that the Force’s component was neither deployed at the said booth nor involved in the said incident any way”.
The clarification came after the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that CRPF has shot dead four people while addressing a public rally in Hingalganj in West Bengal.
Five persons were killed in two separate incidents of violence at Sitalkuchi Assembly seat in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district where the fourth phase of polling was held on April 10.
Election Commission ordered adjourning the poll in Polling Station 126 of Sitalkurchi Assembly Constituency following an interim report from Special Observers. Detailed reports have been sought from them and Chief Electoral Officer by the evening on Saturday
