Bandipora: The inhabitants of living around Zalwan road are up in arms against District administration Bandipora for failing to repair the vital Zalwan road in this North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The Unhygienic Surroundings, chocked drains, caused due non-cleanliness drives in the area which the admin has failed to clear poses worst scene in Zalwan road Bandipora which appears to be not on the radar of the bodies entrusted with cleanliness of the area.

As per locals, no body looks after the cleanliness of lanes and drains, they come occasionally to carry out cleanliness work in the area, they said.

Residents of Zalwaan road in Bandipora on tuesday said authorities have failed to construct drainage system and undertake road repairing in the area despite repeated assurances given to them in past.

Locals said in one hand the Government of India launches schemes like Swach Bharat Mission under which works of cleanliness are to be done but in our area the scheme has miserably failed to meet the needs.

In other hand the locals said that the road which connects Zalwaan to main Bandipora is in shambles and dotted with potholes causing immense trouble to the local residents who decry official apathy and step-motherly treatment to the area. The residents said that the roads in the area are bumpy and dotted due to which the commuters are facing hardships.

We have visited authorities time and again to request them to start the work but our pleas have always been ignored,” said a local Arshid Ahmad.

During rains, the dilapidated roads turn into cesspools. “When water remains stagnant for a long time, It further damages road,” said Sabina Wani, a local.

“Due to potholes vehicles have suffered damages. The dilapidated condition of the road poses a risk of accidents. The road is vital as most of the vehicles including tippers, tractors pass through it,” Sabina added.

The residents said that the main reason for the pathetic condition of the road is the lack of the proper drainage facilities for dislocation of water from the road hence the drainage discharge and the rainwater lodging results in the submerging of the road.

The residents requested the higher up to direct for construction of drain and repair of road.
Arshid said the area comprises of hundreds of households. “We appeal to the authorities to issue directions for ending our miseries,” he added. Another resident Gh Rasool said whenever they approached the authorities they were given “lame excuses” and had to return disappointed. “Sometimes we are told that funds are not available, the resident said.

The inhabitants of the area have sought the intervention of Lieutanant Governor J&K and demanded immediate macadamization of the road and deputing of MC Sweepers for the convenience of the locals.
