B’Pora: Much to the respite of the Dialysis patients of Bandipora District, the dialysis unit of District Hospital Bandipora was made functional on Thursday.
The dialysis centre at District Hospital Bandipora has been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis (PMND) programme.
Earlier dialysis patients from this district used to visit Srinagar and other private hospitals traveling miles which cost them huge money.
According to Dr Bashir Ahmad, Medical Superintendent of hospital 17 patients are availing the treatment here and four patients are treated on a daily basis.
He said more patients will be benefitted as the government has sanctioned more machines which will help us to cover more patients in less time.”
Senior consultant and in-charge of the unit Dr Pervaiz Sajad Shah said, “We follow the protocol of international standards and it is mostly beneficial to poor patients. Here, we get patients from far off places of north Kashmir.”
Meanwhile Dialysis patients of Bandipora district have hailed the move. They would travel 70 kilometre twice or thrice a week to Soura in Srinagar for the dialysis sessions. To meet the expenses of his treatment, he was forced to sell his business and orchards.
On the verge of penury and about to discontinue his treatment, he got a ray of hope as the unit started in Bandipora hospital.
“I have been a dialysis patient for many years and I have spent a large amount on treatment in Srinagar and other parts of the valley. With this centre, all my problems will be resolved at the facility,” said a patient.
While paying gratitude to the doctors and employees, the patient said, “we are thankful to everyone especially Dr Bashir Ahmed Medical Superintendent , Dr Parvaiz Sajad Senior Consultant (in-charge of the unit) and Mir Tafazul Yousuf who left no stone unturned to start this unit in Bandipora.” “They worked day and night to start the facility in district Bandipora within the shortest possible period of time.”
