Pulwama:To curb power pilferage in the district, the District Administration Pulwama has started taking effective measures by doing active vigilance through surprise checks conducted by the teams of KPDCL.
In this regard Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr Raghav Langer Tuesday chaired a review meeting here that was attended by members of civil society, police and civil officers.
At the outset DC appealed to the civil society members to educate the general public regarding the evil of power theft and hooking.
He directed the revenue and JKPDCL officers to intensify the crackdown on power theft and added that maximum penalty should be slashed for first time offenders besides lodging of FIR for habitual offenders.
The DC instructed that the power connection of the household found involved in the offence of power theft or hooking should be disconnected for a minimum of seven days.
While hailing the efforts of KPDCL teams for strict action against violators indulging in illegal hooking and bypassing of the metering, the DDC said the government is committed to streamline power issues including power theft which is the main cause of load shedding.
He said due to power pilferage not only the agreement load has increased in the district by 10-12 MW but peak load has also reduced drastically due to action on the violators.
