Comr F&D organises awareness prog on ‘World Food Day’

Srinagar: On World Food Day an awareness program was organised by Commissioner of Food and Drugs Administration J&K.

On the occasion, the participants were sensitised regarding the theme of this years ‘World Food Day’ which is ‘Grow, Nourish and Sustain by practicing healthy food habits together’.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Shakeel ul Rehman said the current health crisis which has arisen due to Coronavirus pandemic has made us more conscious regarding the importance of food as a basic need to sustain life.

He further said food should not only satiate our hunger but must also fulfil the basic needs of our body.

He impressed upon the regulatory staff to ensure the availability of nutritious and wholesome food to the consumers.

The food manufacturers were directed to implement latest concepts of food safety which include good manufacturing practices, good hygienic practices, HACCP and ISO 22000.

The consumers were requested to ensure daily intake of a balanced diet and to discourage the consumption of foods high in salt, sugar and saturated fat.

The Commissioner said the department has ensured that during Covid-19 food remains available to consumers and no soul sleeps without food.  Food packets in sufficient quantity were distributed to needy with active cooperation of respective District administrations.

Meanwhile, officers of the department, some prominent food manufacturers besides others participated in the program.
