Srinagar:A delegation of representatives of Jammu and Kashmir Sericulture Rearers and Farmers Association Tuesday called on Director Sericulture, Manzoor Ahmad Qadiri apprising him of their issues and concerns.
The delegation apprised the Director of various issues being faced by the silkworm rearers like availability of Chawki reared worms and holding of Cocoon Auction Markets as the spring crop has already been harvested so that the impact of climate and pests/rodents upon the crop is minimized. They thanked the department for providing silkworm seed, disinfectants, Rearing Kits, foliage and technical guidance to the silkworm rearers despite the difficulties being faced by the staff in view of the COVID 19.
Director assured the delegation that the entire machinery of the Department is all set to serve the farmers to ensure a better cocoon crop and profitable returns to the farmers. He assured the delegation that Cocoon Auction Markets shall be conducted in the first week of September, 2020 in consultation with the authorities of the JKI and the other concerned stakeholders. He informed the delegation that it has been possible only because of the personal intervention of the Navin Kumar Choudhary), Principal Secretary Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department that JKI has been roped in for holding of the Cocoon Auction Markets in Jammu and similar Markets will be organized in Kashmir Division so that the farmers get timely returns for their crop.
He assured the delegation that the officers/officials of the department shall provide all requisite assistance to the farmers for a successful summer rearing.
