Bandipora suicide case: Mother-in-law of deceased woman arrested

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police Saturday cracked the suicide case of a woman, who forced her son’s wife to take an extreme step in Chatibandi village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora.
A police official said they have booked a woman, who happens to be the mother in law of a the one who committed suicide after setting herself ablaze in Chattibandi village on July 11. The victim aged 30, passed away in SMHS due to intense burn injuries.
The official said that the deceased victim had stated in her statement before police at the hospital that her in-laws especially mother in-law and sister in-law were had been harassing her forcing her to take an extreme step.
The official said police have registered a case and the investigation was still going on. “But the mother in law of the deceased has been arrested for forcing her son’s wife to commit suicide,” he said, adding that the case FIR Number 25/2020 under section 306 at police station Aragam, Bandipora. He said that further investigation in the case is going on.
The mother-in-law of the deceased woman has been put behind bars and her Covid testing has been done by a team of doctors, the results of which have come as positive. “She has been shifted to an isolation centre,” police sources said.
The family members of the deceased alleged that she was murdered by her in-laws. They said that she was married three years ago and ever since was continuously being harassed. “She was tortured and harassed by her in-laws from the first day of her marriage. Those who forced her to take extreme step should be punished as per the law,” they demanded
