Farhan Kitab
The word ‘citizen’ has various meanings. But two of its meaning is very important. It means a person living in a city. It also means the member of a nation who may be living anywhere in a country. For example, an Indian citizen means Indian living iN any village or city of India. A citizen is protected by the laws of the country. He enjoys certain rights. The government of the country gives him certain facilities like the right of freedom of speech, right of freedom of living, and freedom from dieseases. In return for these rights a citizen has some duties and responsibilities .The first duty of a citizen is to serve his county. He is born in the country, brought up there, earn his living there and enjoys all comforts of life. The country expected loyalty from him. He should serve his country in peace as well as in war. In time of war he should join, if he need be, the army of the country and fight against the enemies. He should shed his blood to protect the country. In times of peace he should carry out his normal social duties and devote his energies to constructive work. The second duty of a citizen is to respect the laws of the country. sometimes the laws are stiff and unpleasant . But he must not break them. of course, he can change them by constitutional method.
A good citizen knows that sanitation is the joint responsibility of the people and all must cooperate with the health authorities, so keep towns and cities clean.
Violent strikes and lockouts are not sign of civilization, and they must never be resorted for gaining an end. Another duty of a good citizen is to help the government in maintaining law and order. Obeying the law is not enough. He must help in punishing the law breakers, robbers, thieves and criminals who create trouble by resorting to unlawful activities. A good citizen should help in bringing to book such persons. A good citizen most not be selfish. He must allow other people to enjoy the same rights as he himself enjoys. He must believe in equality. Some people do not look at the convenience of others. They clean their own houses and throw the rubbish in front of their neigbour’s hours. That is not like a good citizen. A good citizen knows that sanitation is the joint responsibility of the people and all must cooperate with the health authorities, so keep towns and cities clean.
