Srinagar /Feb, 25: Police in a statement issued on Monday said that it has identified all the three militants killed in a gunfight in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district last Sunday.

In a statement issued on Monday Police said that the three militants killed in Kulgam gunfight have  been identified as Raqib Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Amin Sheikh resident of Shiganpora Kulgam and from the incriminating material recovered from the site of encounter, the other two militants killed in the gunfight have been identified as Waleed and Numan, foreigners from Pakistan.

Police said that all the three slain militants were affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit adding that ‘the two killed Pakistani militants , Waleed and Numan, as per police records were the top commanders of the Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit who were active in Southern parts of Kashmir valley’ . Saying that ‘as per the police records, they (slain militants) were involved in conspiring and executing several  attacks and were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of crimes including attack on security establishments, the police in its statement said ‘several terror crime cases were registered against them for their terrorist activities’

Claiming that arms & ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter,  the police statement said ‘ all these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases’ .

Police in its statement as usual appealed people  not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials asking them to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any.
