Jammu/ Feb,9: The Jammu-Srinagar highway continues to remain closed on Saturday for the fourth consecutive day as the landslides at several places in the Banihal-Ramban area are yet to be cleared completely for the restoration of safe movement of traffic on the highwat, said the traffic officials overseeing the movement of the traffic on the highway.

Saying that though snow clearance operation  has been fast paced in the Bannihal area  the taffic police officials said landslides at Digdol, Panthal, Battery Chashma and Anokhi Falls in the Ramsoo-Ramban are however yet to be removed completely for the restoration of the smooth movement of traffic on the high way ” ,adding that “we are expecting to get the highway cleared any time later in the day. A decision to allow traffic will be taken after getting an approval from the Border Roads Organisation and the NHAI (National Highway Authority of India).”

More than 300 trucks carrying essential supplies to the landlocked Kashmir Valley are stranded on the highway for the last four days. Meanwhile, airfare between Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Delhi has skyrocketed after the closure of the highway. Flights operations at Srinagar airport resumed on Friday after cancellation of routine flights on two consecutive day.

A special Indian Air Force plane carried 179 students to Jammu from Srinagar on Friday. These students will appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam on Satuday. Meanwhile MeT Office In Srinagar has forecast dry weather till February 13 in Jammu and Kashmir.
