Kohima: The Chairperson National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma arrived in Nagaland yesterday, along with Neha Mahajan, Counselor, of the NCW.
According to a press release issued by State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW) of Nagaland, the NCW team has arrived to inspect institutions, where women are housed as prisoners under the provisions of NCW Act 1990. National Commission for Women is inter alia mandated to inspect institutions where women are housed as prisoners under the provisions of NCW Act 1990. Keeping this mandate, the NCW visited the District Jail, Dimapur and interacted with the female inmates. The team was accompanied by the State team headed by the chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for Women Dr. Temsula Ao, Social Welfare officials, NGO representatives from Sophia Foundation, advocate providing legal aid to female inmates.
This was followed by a meeting with the Police officials headed by Renchamo P Kikon, DG (Prison), where challenges of the women prisoners and also women police personnel were deliberated, the release said. UNI AS AND
