Awareness prog on e-way bill under GST held in Shopian

Shopian: District Administration Shopian in collaboration with Commercial Taxes Department organized an awareness program on e-way bill under Goods and Service Tax (GST), here Thursday at Mini Secretariat Arhama Shopian.

Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner Shopian, Mohammad Aijaz appreciated the efforts of commercial taxes officers for organizing an event for explaining salient features and benefits of e-way bill under GST to all stakeholders. He said awareness program was vital for getting all stakeholders—businessmen, educationists, media persons, public servants, lawyers, entrepreneurs ready for its implementation.

The GST provision, requiring any good more than Rs 50,000 in value to be pre-registered online before it can be moved, is likely to kick in from October after a centralized software platform is ready.

The provision, called the e-way bill, would be implemented after infrastructure for smooth generation of registration and its verification through hand-held devices with tax officials is ready.

As per the provision, GSTN would generate e-way bills that will be valid for 1-20 days, depending on the distance to be travelled.

Earlier, Assistant commissioner Commercial taxes, south Kashmir explained the anticipated impact of e-way bill under GST on tax structure, tax incidence, tax computation, tax payment, compliance, credit utilization and reporting under the new regime which would lead to a complete overhaul of the current indirect syste He described e-way bill under Goods and Services Tax (GST) as one of the best possible tax systems that will immensely benefit stakeholders.

Among others, Commercial Taxes Officer, Pulwama and Shopian, other concerned officers and officials and local traders participated in the program.
