Srinagar : Two persons lost their lives after a car skidded off the road and plunged into a deep stream near Levra forests in Banihal on Friday evening.
Reports said that rescue teams, police personnel, and volunteers launched an operation to retrieve the occupants from the badly damaged vehicle, but both victims succumbed to their injuries.
An official said that soon after the incident, rescue teams along with police personnel and volunteers, reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
He said the vehicle had suffered severe damage in the accident, and rescuers faced considerable difficulty in retrieving the occupants who were trapped inside the mangled car.
One of the occupants was declared dead on the spot, while the second was evacuated to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where he succumbed to injuries enroute.
The deceased have been identified as Amir Ahmed, son of Muhammad Shafi Chopan, and Zeeshan Wani, son of Abdul Latief Wani, both residents of Batoo Neel area of Ramsoo tehsil in Ramban district.
Road accidents remain a recurring concern on the hilly and challenging routes of Ramban district, particularly in remote areas where steep gorges and difficult terrain often complicate rescue efforts.
