Patna: After making an aerial survey of flood affected districts of Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured all possible help to the state government for scaling up rescue and relief operation in the inundated areas and compensate losses caused due to the nature’s fury. Modi, who landed at Chunapur airbase in Purnea at around 10 a.m. made an aerial survey of worst-affected districts of Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar and Purnea said that a central team would be sent to the state soon for estimating losses caused by the nature`s fury. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi accompanied PM during his aerial survey.
PM held a high level meeting soon after his return from aerial survey in Purnea. Later, state Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh gave a detailed presentation on behalf of the state government before Prime Minister Mr Modi. Chief Minister Mr Kumar also threw light on some important points related to the flood during the presentation. Mr Modi said that even the non-traditional areas had been hit by flood this year. He said that a central team would visit the state soon to assess losses and promised all possible help to the state government. He also emphasised on the need for developing an institutional arrangement for tackling such types of situations more effectively.
Modi announcing an immediate assistance of Rs 500 crore to Bihar in view of devastating flood said the state government`s memorandum in this regard would also be considered seriously. He said an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be paid to family members of each person who had lost life in the flood. He said that seriously injured people would also get financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each.
