New Delhi: India and Nepal today entered into eight pacts, including reconstruction of 50,000 houses and health sector. The pacts were signed after a comprehensive talk held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba on strategic bilateral and regional issues.
The pacts included modalities for utilisation of India’s housing grant component to support reconstruction of 50,000 houses, implementation of the grant component of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction package in the education sector, implementation of the grant component of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction package in the cultural heritage sector and implementation of the grant component of India’s post-earthquake reconstruction package in the health sector.
All these agreements were signed between S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs and his Nepalese Secretary in the Finance Ministry Shanta Raj Subedi. Besides, both the nations also signed agreement on implementation arrangement on cost sharing, schedules and safeguard issues for construction of Mechi Bridge under ADB’s SASEC Road Connectivity Programme (Tranche 2), funded by Government of India, drug demand reduction and prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursor chemical and related matters, cooperation in the field of standardization and conformity assessment and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal.
