New Delhi: US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson today extended Independence Day greetings to the people of India and expressed his country’s commitment to support them in their quest for prosperity and endeavour to preserve their freedom. “Prime Minister Modi’s ambitious vision for the US-India relationship holds great promise for advancing our shared interests in the 21st century, and we look forward to the many years of friendship before us,’’ Mr Tillerson said in a message. The United States was proud to stand with the people of India, the world’s largest democracy, in the cause for freedom and prosperity around the globe, he added. US President Donald Trump had last evening called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend his wishes and the wishes of his people on the Independence Day. Meanwhile, reports of celebrations of the Independence Day have come from various India missions abroad.
