Patna: With major rivers continuing to unleash fury in various parts of the state, Army were today called out to assist civil authorities in carrying out relief and rescue operation in the flood hit areas effectively.
Two choppers of Indian Air Force (IAF) had also been pressed into service to air drop food packets among marooned people in the worst affected district of Purnea.
Sources at Disaster Management Department said that one column of Army reached Kishanganj from Danapur cantonment last night and were assisting civil authorities in carrying out relief and rescue operation.
Three additional columns of Army had been deployed in Katihar district.
Sources said that three more columns of Army had also been requested for carrying out relief and rescue operation effectively.
