Puducherry: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Puducherry police to act up on a complaint lodged by the Federation for Peoples’ Rights (FPR) and to intimate the complainant within 8 weeks, the action taken. FPR Secretary G Sugumaran in a release here today said that police have wrongly implicated one Bhoopalan of Kothapurinatham here in the Velazhagan murder case, arrested and lodged him in the central prison.
Velazhagan, an N R Congress activist of Thurubhuvanai was murdered on May 19, 2017 by hurling country made bombs at him. Superintendent of Police Deivasigamani was suspended for attempting to protect Udayakumar, the prime accused in the murder, and police arrested eight accused including Udayakumar and lodged them in the central prison here.
The CB-CID is investigating the case now. Meanwhile, police also arrested Bhoopalan in connection with the murder. It is a known case that police arrested Bhoopalan in place of another Bhoopalan and the FPR had lodged a complaint with NHRC to ensure the release of Bhoopalan and handing over the case to the CBI.
