Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep anguish at the loss of lives and property by floods in Assam, assuring all Central government assistance to the state at this crucial time. Conveying the prime minister’s assurance to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over telephone today, DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh expressed concern over the damage caused by the devastating floods in Assam. Dr Singh informed that Prime Minister Modi has entrusted him of all responsibilities to extend all possible help from the Centre and help the state tide over the impact of this catastrophic flood, an official statement said here.
Expressing his deep concern over the flood caused by the torrential rains in the State as well as upper reaches of the Brahmaputra, Dr. Singh said, “The Centre is very much with the people of Assam at this time crisis and assures all possible help to normalise the situation.” Chief Minister Sonowal directed the Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, New Delhi, to liaison with the DoNER Ministry and furnish an exhaustive account of the loss in terms of lives and property incurred during the current flood. The Prime Minister had earlier himself spoken to Sonowal regarding the flood situation. At least 44 people have been killed and another 17 lakh population affected in 25 districts of the state in the current wave of floods so far.
