Srinagar: Authorities on Friday imposed restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of five police stations while the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) protested against the US decision of designating Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Chief, Syed Salah-ud-din as global terrorist.
An official said that the restrictions under section 144 CrPc were imposed in the Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of five Police Stations including Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar and Safakadal as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.
A huge contingent of forces was deployed in these areas to thwart any possible protest called by the Joint resistance Leadership (JRL) including Huriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The JRL had called for protests against the US decision of designating Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Chief, Syed Salah-ud-din as global terrorist and against the arrests of separatist leaders.
The United Jihad Council (UJC) had also called for protests against it.
The forces had also erected concertina wires on the roads to the vehicular movement in the Srinagar areas.
Meanwhile, JKLF Friday protested against the US decision of designating Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Chief, Syed Salah-ud-din as global terrorist and against the arrests of separatist leaders.
Holding placards in their hands and raising slogans in favor of freedom, martyrs and unity and against the spree of arrests and clubbing Kashmiri freedom struggle with terrorism, the participants of the protest sit-in were addressed by leaders Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Siraj ud Din Mir and others.
The protest sit-in later ended peacefully.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was Friday placed under house arrest when he was heading towards Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta area of the Srinagar city for the Friday prayers.
Sources said that a huge contingent of policemen stopped Mirwaiz from leaving his residence and informed him that he has been placed under house arrest.
They said that the Hurriyat leader was heading towards Jamia Masjid for delivering sermons ahead of the Friday prayers.
However, the authorities continued to bar people from offering mandatory Friday congregational prayers in the historic Jamia Masjid on the second consecutive Friday.
The locals said that the strict restrictions were imposed in the area and the people here were forced to offer Friday prayers in the small Masjid’s.
The authorities had also disallowed people to offer Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid on the last Friday of Ramadhan (Jumma-tul-Vida) and the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers as precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, a police official said the situation across the Valley remained peaceful throughout the day.
