New Delhi, May 31: The CPI-M today said that the Central Government’s latest notification on cattle sale was unconstitutional and virtually amounted to contempt of the Supreme Court.
The party alleged that the notification sought to “terrorise” the minority communities.
“This decision is a gift to the RSS-backed cow vigilantes on the third anniversary of this Government,” the party said in a booklet released giving the party’s assessment on the performance of the Narendra Modi Government during last three years.
The booklet titled, ‘Teen Saal, Na Roti, Na Daal: Hazaron Sawaal’ released by senior party leaders Sitaram Yechury, Brinda Karat and MA Babby, says that the notification of the Environment Ministry will affect the “livelihood of crores of dairy farmers all over India” and that it will also hit the export trade in beef “mainly buffalo meat” worth around Rs 30,000-crore.
“The Centre has no right to issue such a notification,” Mr Yechury said adding such matters are only to be decided by the respective state governments.
