On visit to Myanmar, Army chief meets Aung San Suu Kyi, top military leader

New Delhi, May 30: In order to build upon the existing mutual cooperation especially in defence sector, Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat is on a four-day visit to Myanmar.
During his stay there, yesterday, he met the country’s popular democratic leader and Myanmar’s State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and held talks with the top military officials.
General Rawat also called upon and interacted with the Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Commander in Chief of Defence Forces in Myanmar Army.
Myanmar is one of India’s strategic neighbours and shares a 1,640-km-long border with the Northeastern region including Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur.
“This visit is yet another milestone to reach out to our neighbourhood in the field of defence cooperation and build upon existing mutual cooperation and trust between the two nations,” the Defence Ministry had said in a statement.
