Development only solution to end poverty, backwardness of tribals: PM

Sahibganj, Apr 06: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said here that only rapid development process can eradicate poverty and backwardness of tribal people in the region.
Addressing the huge gathering at the police lines here, after laying the foundation stone for building a four-lane bridge over river Ganga, connecting Sahebgunj with Maihari of Katihar district of neighbouring Bihar, he said it was for the first time after India’s Independence that so many developmental schemes were being launched for the Santhal Pargana region on a single day.
Apart from the four-lane Ganga bridge to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 2,266 crore, he also laid the foundation stone for building a model port terminal at Sahibganj, which is dedicated to the people of the Gobindpur-Jamtara-Dumka-Sahibgunj highway.
He also inaugurated solar power rooftops at the civil court and Sadar Hospital premises of Sahibganj, distributed appointment letters among the female constables of the Paharia tribes and also handed over smart phones to the members of the Women Sakhi Mandals of the state.
