Srinagar/April, 3: Six paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were injured after militants attacked their convoy near Panthachowk in Srinagar on Monday.
The attack took place on a convoy carrying additional companies of CRPF men called for election duty, said CRPF spokesperson Rajesh Yadav.
A ten-year-old girl, identified as Zainab of Drangbal Pampore, was also injured in the attack.
Reports said that CRPF men from 97 Battalion coming from Jammu to Srinagar came under attack near Pantha Chowk. Militants resorted to indiscriminate firing creating panic in the area. The sudden attack disrupted the vehiclur movement on the roads while drivers adopted alternate routes to reach their destinations.
All the injured were shifted to Badamibagh based 92 Base  army hospital. “Six CRPF men and a girl received wounds in the attack. The injured included the driver of the vehicle,” said an official adding that area was cordoned off and a combing operation was launched to track down the militants.
Meanwhile, lesser known militant outfit ‘Quite Kashmir Movement’ claimed the responsibility of the attack. A caller who identified himself Muhammad Talah, the spokesperson of the outfit told local news gathering agency CNS that attack on CRPF was carried out in Pantha Chowk in which several Indian security men were wounded.
