Banday Abid Shafi
As healthcare organizations face unprecedented challenges to improve quality, reduce harm, improve access, increase efficiency, eliminate waste, and lower costs, innovation is becoming a major focus once again.“More value, better outcomes, greater convenience, access and simplicity; all for less cost, complexity, and time required by the patient and the provider.’’ Health care is an industry in need of innovation. Health plans, providers, life sciences companies, and the government are facing rising costs and inconsistent outcomes. They are working to improve care and health outcomes, all while reducing costs and spending. Health care is an important service which the mankind need the most and that too on priority basis. It is a fact that Healthcare services have undergone a wide range of changes in previous years with good number of computerized machines being installed in almost each and every hospital, be it a Private or Government run, even at local sub-centre /Community centre level. The new innovative technology has not only revolutionized other sectors such as Education, Sports, Engineering, Lifestyle but it has also made a great impact on health sector. The growing demands of health care and its door to door availability is only possible because of the new and updated scientific innovations made over time. Besides the facilities being provided at Hospital, the healthcare facilities have been made accessible in such a way that most of the reputed and accredited hospitals in the country provide healthcare through mobile clinics. The same suggestion of mobile clinic was made by the former Director SKIMS Soura Srinagar Prof. Showkat Ahmad Zargar. Critical care ambulances are also made in such a way that they contain each and every facility required by the patient in cases of emergency. One of the examples is of case of Chennai when a heart was transported from Government General hospital to Fortis Malar Hospital in Adyar About 12 Kms away, in less than 14 Minutes by creating a Green Corridor (Red-light free access) by halting the whole city traffic and in next 15-20 minutes the heart was beating in patients chest. It was only possible when the heart that was to be transported was kept alive with the help scientific tools. The service of critical care ambulances were started by the GMC Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Bank Ltd and a good number of these mobile critical care units has been made available to the public in cases of emergency.
Technology helps us to contribute to patient-centered care by fostering communication between providers and patients via online portals, text messaging, and email. It also increases access to information such as online medical records, which can improve self-monitoring and patient convenience. “More for less”: Innovations in health care can enable breakthrough performance.
As far as Treatments of deadly diseases is concerned, there is a great progress seen in previous 10-15 years. Now, the patients who were supposed to travel abroad for the treatment of Brain Tumor, Cancer, HIV AIDs, Tuberculosis, Lung Cancer, etc get their treatment at their door step. The hospitals in our country are far advanced now a days in terms of care and quality of equipments. The use of Robotics in the field of Surgery was also a landmark step which has completely revolutionized the said field. The first documented use of a robot assisted surgical procedure occurred in 1985 when the PUMA 560 robotic surgical arm was used in a delicate neurosurgical biopsy, a non-laparoscopic surgery. Back in India the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been at the forefront of the robotic revolution in India. The first robotic radical prostatectomy in India was performed in A.I.I.M.S. New Delhi in July 2006. Since then over 200 robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies have been successfully carried out and in Kashmir Robotic Surgerical System “Da Vinci Robot” was inaugurated by Director SKIMS Dr A G Ahangar on 7 December 2019 at Kashmir’s one of the premier healthcare Institute SKIMS Soura Srinagar. Now a days Laser ablation surgeries are also carried out in order to reduce the risk of infection and the time of recovery. It is a treatment to remove tumors and other lesions. It uses light to heat and destroy unwanted cells. Neurosurgeons use an advanced surgical tool called ROSA Brain to place a thin laser probe in the brain and do the surgery. Telemedicine is the use of technology that enables remote healthcare (telehealth). Basically makes it possible for physicians to treat patients whenever needed and wherever the patient is, by using a computer or Smartphone. E-Health related application can give major advantages to medical practitioners who use it, not only does it make the job easier but you can also be more efficient by the use of technology. People that cannot go their doctor immediately can still receive medical care. Having an online health-related application installed on your gadget helps you in numerous ways. . For example, you can get a notification on your doctor’s status like his schedule and you can also get your appointment from it, also it gives your advantage on managing your health routine by notifying you on what to do on that time. Technology has Changed Healthcare By providing Better and More Accessible Treatment, Improved Care and Efficiency, Software Improves Healthcare and Disease Control. Technology helps us to contribute to patient-centered care by fostering communication between providers and patients via online portals, text messaging, and email. It also increases access to information such as online medical records, which can improve self-monitoring and patient convenience. “More for less”: Innovations in health care can enable breakthrough performance.
