New Delhi , May 15: The Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Ramvilas Paswan, today said the practices such as Dual MRP, service charges, etc, are illegal and people could directly approach consumer courts in such matters.
Mr Paswan, who is in strong support of the consumers and the beneficiaries of various Government schemes such as Public Distribution Scheme, Direct Benefit Transfer, Food Protection Act, etc, today briefed the mediapersons about the achievements of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution in the past three years.
In order to address the grievances regarding the misleading advertisements, a portal “Grievances Against Misleading Advertisement” was launched earlier in March 2015, the Minister said.
Digital initiatives like the Online Consumer Mediation Centre (OCMC), A mobile app named “Smart Consumer” were launched in December 2016.
OCMC was yet to come into operation, whereas Smart Consumer was out for consumer where he or she could scan the barcode printed on any packaged commodity and thereby know the details of the product, company etc, and also to register a complaint.
