Kargil/May,4: Chairman J&K Legislative Council, Haji Inayat Ali, Friday visited the Pathri, Zero Point and Captain Mode areas of Zojila Pass in Kargil and Ganderbal districts to inspect the progress of ongoing snow and avalanche clearance works here.

During the inspection of the clearance work going on since April 28, the Chairman was appraised about shortage of medicines, vegetables and other essential commodities in the said areas resulting from closure of roads leading to them.

Expressing unhappiness with the pace of work, the Chairman issued strict instructions to the concerned agencies, including Beacon, Army and Project Vijayak, for expediting the work and opening of the road with the next 3 days for required commodities to reach the people of these areas.

On the occasion, the locals appraised the Chairman about problems resulting from the place falling within the jurisdictions of two (Ganderbal and Kargil) districts. The Chairman assured of calling a high-level meeting soon to discuss the issue and see if it is possible to include it within the jurisdiction of a single district.

The Chairman also assured of calling a meeting to discuss the status of the Zojila Tunnel project. He said in the absence of an airport here the ATR services will remain in force for people travelling in and out of here.

On the occasion, the Chairman also visited the Nilgrath and Kulan areas here, where he was appraised about the weakened status of embankments here. He assured to raise the issue with concerned quarters.

Speaking to locals on the occasion, the Chairman said the present government led the CM Mehbooba Mufti is keen on the development of Kargil. He urged the people to support the government in its endeavors.

DC Kargil, SSP KARGIL, SDM Sonamarg, SHOs Dras and Sonamarg, senior Beacon and Project Vijayak officials and other concerned officers accompanied the Chairman during the visit.
