Balasore, May 4: The user trial of nuclear capable medium range ballistic missile Agni-II was today test fired from the Launch Complex-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) on Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.
ITR sources said the Strategic Forces Command (SCF) conducted the user trial of the missile at about 1024 hours from the island located inside the Bay of Bengal.
The 20 meter high Agni-II missile having a two solid fuel stages and a Post Boost Vehicle (PBV with a striking range of more than 2,000 km soared into the clear sky but it was not immediately known whether it hit the designated target.
The two-stage surface-to-surface missile, powered by solid propellants would give the Army requisite confidence and capability to fire the surface-to-surface missile on its own without the help of defence scientists.
The missile had already been inducted into the Army in 2004 and will be used by 555th missile group of the Army.
