Reasi: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of SKUAST-J organised one day farmers training program on “Entrepreneurship development in organic vegetable growing” at village KansiPatta.

The program attended by progressive farmers of the area, wasorganised under the guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.RK Arora, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi Dr. Banarsi Lal.

In the introductory session Dr.Banarsi Lal urged farmers to switch over to commercial organic vegetables to generate more income and employment in the area as hilly areas have immense potential for organic vegetables growth.

He further informed about the critical inputs used in the organic farming and highlighted the use of biofertilizers, green manuring, neem cake and vermicompost in organic vegetables growing.

He warned the farmers that indiscriminate use of agro-chemicals adversely affects the soil and human health.

While emphasizing on the quality seeds of vegetables for higher yields, he suggested the farmers to consult the KVK scientists before sowing the organic vegetables.

He further added that focus should be on creating low cost vermicompost units for using well decomposed manures in their vegetables fields.

He emphasized on crop diversification alongwith organic management of insect-pests, diseases and weeds in their vegetables, certification of organic farms while demonstrating the nursery raising techniques, vegetables processing, value addition of vegetables, protected cultivation of vegetables using polyhouse. He also suggested the farmers about the management and strengthening of farmers clubs for the micro-agri entrepreneurships in the rural areas.

Dr.Banarsi also guided the farmers about the marketing management of their farm produce. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi laid out Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on organic vegetables in the area.
