Says “A global acknowledgement Of J&K’s historical, cultural legacy a milestone moment”

Srinagar | Nov, 06:Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday congratulated the people of Jammu and Kashmir over the inscription of the 12th-century manuscript of Kalhana’sRajatarangini in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register, describing it as a global acknowledgement of the region’s rich historical and cultural legacy.
The historic manuscript, preserved at the Oriental Research Library in the Sri Pratap Singh Library Complex, Srinagar, offers a detailed account of Kashmir’s rulers, society, traditions and cultural evolution. Regarded as one of the earliest systematic historical chronicles of the Indian subcontinent, Rajatarangini occupies a significant place in Kashmir’s literary, historical and intellectual heritage.
The Chief Minister said the international recognition was a moment of immense pride for Jammu and Kashmir, bringing global attention to the region’s civilisational legacy and its contribution to history and literature. He said the inscription also highlighted the importance of safeguarding rare manuscripts and historical records for future generations. Omar expressed hope that the recognition would further strengthen efforts to preserve, document and promote Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural heritage while enhancing its visibility on the international stage.
