Respiratory Medicine MD Seats Introduced for the First Time

Srinagar | November 06: In a significant boost to medical education in the Union Territory, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu has added 12 postgraduate (PG) seats across multiple disciplines for the 2026-27 academic session, expanding the institution’s total PG intake capacity from 242 to 254. The expansion includes seat additions in four existing branches alongside the debut of postgraduate training in Respiratory Medicine, officials said.
Announcing the milestone on social media platform X, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo highlighted that MD Pathology seats have increased from 18 to 23, MD Paediatrics from 18 to 20, MD Pharmacology from 10 to 12, and MD Microbiology from seven to eight. Additionally, two MD seats in Respiratory Medicine have been introduced for the first time at GMC Jammu, opening specialized training opportunities in respiratory care, reports said.
Minister Sakina Itoo noted that over the past two years, a total of 70 MBBS seats and 56 PG seats have been added across various medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, with additional DM and MCh seats expected shortly. She attributed these infrastructure advancements to ongoing initiatives under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah aimed at strengthening healthcare services and medical education across the region, sources said.
