Dear Editor,
I want to publish my view through columns of your leading newspaper in Kashmir on Supreme Court’s landmark ruling on right to safe pavements. Below mentioned are my views on the subject:-
Pavements: Tracing Life, Reclaiming Dignity
The Supreme Court’s landmark ruling elevating the right to safe pavements into a core component of Article 21 is a visionary, much-needed moral wake-up call. For decades, our lopsided urban development has aggressively prioritised vehicular horsepower over basic human life. Consequently India faces a tragic statistic of over 20,000 pedestrian deaths annually due to neglected un-walkable infrastructure. Walking is truly the simplest human activity inextricably tied to daily survival. Reclaiming our sidewalks from illegal encroachments and vehicle dumping is not a mere engineering puzzle but an ethical mandate. Municipalities must build with profound civic empathy to turn concrete slabs back into safe pathways of shared human dignity.
