Through esteemed columns of your leading newspaper, I would like to write few lines on National Livehood Mission mobilization of 10.05 crore women under the caption “The Mirage Of Rural Prosperity” . Below mentioned are my views on the subject:-
The Mirage of Rural Prosperity
While National Livehood Mission mobilization of 10.05 crore women is a monumental feat the ground reality remains a mosaic of structural debt & stagnant growth. Beyond the Lakhpati Didi success stories statistics reveal a sobering truth over 68% of SHG members struggle with acute financial illiteracy & nearly 53% face severe repayment distress.The mission’s heavy reliance on debt financing mobilizing ₹11 lakh crore in credit often masks a debt trap cycle where loans fund consumption rather than production. Without robust market linkages & professional auditing for the ₹56,000 crore capitalization fund we risk creating a bubble of assisted poverty. Regime must pivot from mere credit delivery to genuine value chain integration.
