Centurion: Indian speedster Ishant Sharma (3/46) and off spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (4 for 113), restricted South Africa to 335 in the first innings on the second day of the second cricket Test here at SuperSport Park on Sunday.
South Africa scored 335 runs in 113.5 overs. Indian bowlers achieved the remaining four wickets of South Africa in 53 runs.
Continuing with overnight score of 269/6 the hosts started their play with Fa du Plessis (24) and Keshav Maharaj (10) were unbeaten.
African captain Plessis hit 63 off 142 balls hitting nine fours. From yesterdays score he added 39 runs and made his 17th half-century in the Test. Along with Maharaj the duo added 42 runs for the eighth wicket partnership.
It was Mohammed Shami who gave breakthrough in the morning by scalping wicket of Maharaj when the hosts were on 282 after being caught off by wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.
With this, Shami grabbed his first wicket and also achieved 100 wickets in Test cricket. Maharaj hit 18 off 54 balls hitting three fours.
Rabada scored 11 off 34 balls but Ishant grabbed eighth wicket of Rabada after being caught off by Hardik Pandya.
Captain Plessis was also sent to the pavillion by Ishant bagging ninth wicket of S African batsman. At the same time, Ashwin took wicket of Morne Morkel after caught off by Murali Vijay bowling out South Africa for 335 shortly after drinks.
Ashwin picked up the most wickets for 113 runs in 38.5 overs, while Ishant, who missed out from the previous match, took three wickets for 46 runs in 22 overs with excellent bowling from 2.09 economy rate. Shami got one wicket for 58 runs.
