Shariq Majeed named Player of the Match in final as 14 teams compete in national tournament

Srinagar, Nov 03: Jammu and Kashmir’s deaf cricket team scripted a memorable sporting achievement by winning the 10th IDCA T20 National Cricket Championship for Deaf 2026, defeating the challenge of teams from across the country in the tournament held in Surat, Gujarat.

The week-long championship, organised by the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA) in collaboration with the Gujarat Deaf Cricket Association (GDCA) and Deaf Cricket Association Surat (DCAS), was conducted from October 26 to November 1 at Bawaji Cricket Ground, Bhatpore. A total of 14 teams representing different states and regions participated in the competition.

The J&K team’s triumph reflects the determination, preparation and competitive spirit of its players, who made their mark at the national platform and brought recognition to the region.

Adding to the team’s success, Shariq Majeed was adjudged Player of the Match in the final for his impressive performance, playing a key role in the title-winning campaign.

The closing ceremony was attended by Santosh Kumar Rai, Special Secretary, Home Department, Government of Delhi, as the chief guest. He congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir contingent on its achievement and appreciated the contribution of players, coaches, officials and organisers towards promoting deaf cricket.

IDCA President Sumit Jain also extended congratulations to the victorious team, describing the successful conduct of the championship as another important milestone in the development and expansion of deaf cricket in India.

The tournament provided a competitive platform for deaf cricketers to demonstrate their abilities and gain national-level exposure. Participation from 14 teams highlighted the expanding reach of the sport and the growing opportunities available to players with hearing disabilities.

During the closing ceremony, Parth Gajjar was also specially felicitated in recognition of his contribution and service to Indian Deaf Cricket.

The championship victory marks an important achievement for Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting community and underscores the potential of differently-abled athletes to excel at the highest levels of competitive sport.
