Similar drives be undertaken across villages to ensure better waste management: Officials
Rafiabad: In a strong display of community initiative, youth in Rawoocha village of Rafiabad launched a cleanliness drive in the Tulbagh area after alleging inaction by the Rural Development Department (RDD) despite repeated complaints.
Once a popular picnic spot, Tulbagh had gradually turned into a dumping site due to indiscriminate waste disposal by locals. Frustrated over the lack of response, a group of youth pooled resources and organised a large-scale clean-up operation to restore the area.
During the drive, volunteers cleared heaps of garbage and created a designated pit for proper waste disposal. They also urged residents to stop dumping waste at the site and maintain cleanliness.
“We approached the concerned department several times, but no concrete action was taken. Finally, we decided to take matters into our own hands,” the youth said, adding that such efforts are essential to protect the environment and preserve community spaces.
The initiative received support from the Revenue and Police departments. Naib Tehsildar Dangiwacha, Manzoor Ahmad Koka, and SHO Dangiwacha, Syed Junaid Ahmad, were present and appreciated the efforts of the youth.
Terming the initiative a “proud moment,” the Naib Tehsildar urged that similar drives be undertaken across villages to ensure better waste management and environmental conservation.
The SHO also lauded the proactive role of the youth and assured full support from the police for such initiatives. He encouraged young people to contribute positively to society and stay away from social evils.
Senior citizens, including the village Numberdar, also joined the drive and appreciated the collective effort. Locals expressed hope that the initiative would inspire other communities to address civic issues through collective action.
