New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The passing of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle has drawn heartfelt tributes from across the political spectrum, with Congress leaders describing her death as the end of an era in Indian music and remembering her as a voice that will live on through generations.
‎Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a post on X that Bhosle’s demise marks a defining moment in the history of playback singing. “In the passing away of Asha Bhosle, an era of playback singing comes to an end. An epitome of legendary versatility and grace, her unique style of singing was appreciated by millions across the globe,” he said.
‎Highlighting her extraordinary contribution to Indian music, Kharge noted that she was a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and one of the most recorded artists in the world. “From Hindi film songs to soulful ghazals, from bhajans to qawwalis, she has rendered it all in several languages,” he added, extending his “heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and innumerable fans.”
‎Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the news of her passing was “extremely saddening” and paid tribute to her enduring artistic legacy. “Through her voice, her art will remain immortal among us forever,” he said, adding, “In this moment of grief, my condolences are with her bereaved family and admirers.”
‎Asha Bhosle, widely regarded as one of the most versatile and prolific singers in Indian cinema, leaves behind a musical legacy that spans decades and genres. Known for her ability to seamlessly transition between classical melodies, romantic numbers, cabaret songs, devotional music, and regional compositions, she carved a distinct identity in an industry that evolved dramatically over the course of her career.
‎Her influence extended far beyond Hindi cinema, with recordings in multiple Indian and international languages, earning her a global fan base and critical acclaim. Over the years, her work not only defined the soundscape of Indian films but also set benchmarks for artistic range and adaptability.
‎With her passing, tributes have continued to pour in from leaders, artistes, and fans alike, all remembering her as a timeless voice whose songs will continue to resonate across generations.
