The $200,000 settlement at CU Boulder of United States exposes a Food racism that haunts academic spaces. While the administrative assistant dismissed palak paneer as pungent the real stench is the intolerance for diversity.With 80% of Indian international students reporting microaggressions in Western institutions especially in United States and Canada, this is not an isolated microwave spat. It is systemic. Penalizing students for their heritage leading to revoked funding is a failure of the very cultural relativism universities claim to teach. Especially Unites States varsities must move beyond tasting diversity to truly respecting the lived experiences that come with it.
