Under Youth Engagement Initiative, Cosco Cricket Tourney Kicks Off in Veeri Anantnag

Anantnag : Under the Youth Engagement Initiative, the Winter Cosco Cricket Tournament was formally kicked off at Tarbal Ground, Veeri, Anantnag, by the local youth. The tournament has been organised with the objective of actively engaging local youngsters in cricket, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and keeping them away from drug abuse and excessive mobile phone addiction.

The opening day witnessed enthusiastic participation from budding cricketers of the area, reflecting the strong sporting spirit among the youth. The event was graced by senior sports enthusiasts and respected elders, who attended as guests and spectators, cheering passionately for the young talents.

This initiative has been taken by the local youth to provide a constructive platform for youngsters who are currently enjoying their winter vacations, channelising their energy towards sports and discipline.

In the opening match, Abdul Hadi Sports outclassed Badshah Sports in a thrilling encounter. A special highlight of the match was the debut of 9 year old local boy Zaid Wakar, who represented Badshah Sports. Zaid is the son of veteran cricketer and captain Raja Wakar, the first ever winning captain at Tarbal Ground back in 2014, making the moment even more memorable.

The tournament has drawn massive participation, with nearly 32 teams from District Anantnag taking part. Around 450 local young cricketers are expected to feature in the tournament, making it one of the largest winter cricket events in the area and a significant step towards youth empowerment through sports.

Tarbal Ground is managed by the local cricket body, the Veeri Cricket Association, which regularly organises leather ball cricket tournaments at the venue throughout the year. These round the clock cricket activities are aimed at actively engaging the youth, promoting discipline, fitness, and sportsmanship, and providing a positive platform for young cricketers to showcase and develop their talent.
