Lucknow: Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA from Mau Sadar seat Abbas Ansari on Sunday was disqualified from the membership of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after his conviction for two years in a hate speech case.

A notification has been issued by the Principal Secretary Vidhan Sabha Pradeep Dubey in this regard. As per the notification Abbas will be considered disqualified from May 31 and the Mau Sadar seat has been declared vacant.

Abbas is son of mafia Mukhtar Ansari and won Mau seat in 2022 polls when SBSP contested in alliance with Samajwadi Party (SP).

It may be noted that Abbas was sentenced to two years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 11,000 by a special court in Mau district in a hate speech case on Saturday.

The MP-MLA court of Judge Dr Krishna Pratap Singh convicted Mukhtar Ansari’s MLA son and MLA Abbas Ansari, and his associate, Mansoor Ansari, in the hate speech case. After being convicted, both people were taken into custody by the police.

The MLA was found guilty under various sections and sentenced to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 11,000 added to the total amount of different sections. MLA Abbas Ansari’s election agent and associate Mansoor Ansari was also sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000.

During the assembly elections in 2022, Abbas Ansari, who was contesting from Mau Sadar assembly seat, was addressing an election public meeting at Pahadpura ground in the city area on the evening of March 3, 2022. During the address, he said from the stage that the administrative officers of the district will be stopped after the elections and taught a lesson.

He said that no one will be transferred after the formation of the Samajwadi Party (SP) government. Everyone will be kept here, and accounts will be settled. Taking cognizance of this matter, an FIR was registered at the city police station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Gangaram Bind. In this, Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari and others were accused.
