New Delhi: The Congress on Sunday expressed surprise that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced by US President Donald Trump and alleged that issues concerning the two nations is “being internationalised”.
It has demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the latest developments.
Addressing a press conference here, senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, “The entire situation has changed very rapidly in the last 24 hours. We were all very surprised that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was announced by the US President.”
“This is probably the first time the US President has announced a ceasefire via social media. We should also pay attention as to what he has written on his post. It is surprising that an issue which is between India and Pakistan, is being internationalised,” he said.
Pilot said that just a couple of days back, America had said that “it is none of our business… then the Secretary of State, Vice President and the President first announce that a ceasefire is taking place, after that India and Pakistan also announce a ceasefire.”
The senior leader asked whether the Indian government has accepted this “mediation”?
Pilot said, “On what conditions has America made this declaration, this is a big question. Also, been mentioned in this. Diplomacy has its own role, but if a ceasefire is announced from Washington in this manner, many questions arise.”
He urged the government to call an all-party meeting and discuss what was not done in the last two meetings.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come to the meeting and take the entire country and political parties into confidence, as the government was given full support by all parties keeping aside their ideologies.
Stating that in 1994, the Congress government had unanimously passed a resolution to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Pilot said, “Now the time has come that we should reiterate the 1994 resolution.”
He said that after the Pahalgam terror attack, the government got full support from the entire country and all political parties, and the Congress too had said that the very first day the “this is an attack on our soul, and it is necessary to give a befitting reply to it”.
The former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan praised the Indian armed forces for their action and again demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the developments so that “message goes across the world that the whole country is united against terrorism and Pakistan’s audacity”.
